Michael Espinosa, CFP®
President, TrueNorth Retire
I’ve always been drawn to work that helps people, and becoming a financial advisor felt like a natural extension of that. I enjoy teaching people about their finances, but what I value most is seeing the difference that knowledge can make in their lives.
After graduating summa cum laude in Business Management from BYU-Idaho, I began my career at Vanguard in Arizona. I went through their corporate CFP® program and started advising clients there, which gave me both technical skills and a deep appreciation for building strong client relationships. Later, I moved to Utah and joined Soltis Investment Advisors, working in their corporate retirement plan division. While working full-time, I earned my MBA from Western Governors University, and in 2022 I joined TrueNorth.
Today, I lead our retirement plan team at TrueNorth Retire. My focus is on 401(k) and Cash Balance plans, which means I spend my days working with business owners to optimize the plan while also leading employee education efforts. I also serve on the executive team, where I bring a perspective shaped by both large investment companies and mid-sized RIAs. Clients often tell me they appreciate my attention to detail, my ability to connect with people at every level of their organization, and the loyalty I bring to every relationship.
What I enjoy most are the one-on-one conversations where I can show someone what’s possible with their finances. I also love tackling complex problems, particularly when I can save clients money or simplify a situation that felt overwhelming.
Outside of work, I enjoy life with my wife and our three children. We love staying up late together, talking about everything from daily life to big dreams. I play in a pickleball league and also spend time gardening, mountain biking, snowboarding, and most recently, getting into whitewater kayaking. Earlier in life, I served a mission in Colombia, and while I still speak conversational Spanish, I’ll admit that investment and tax terms in Spanish can be tricky!
